- I found out it was a hit and run accident down in Newport Beach.

알고 보니까 뉴포트 비치에서 뺑소니를 당한 거였어요.

It killed me.

저를 죽였죠.

It devastated me.

저를 망가뜨렸어요.

There was a brother I did everything with.

모든 걸 함께 했던 형제가 있었어요.

Seventeen years old, died three times on the table.

17살이었고, 수술대에서 세 번 죽었죠.

So, my brother John is paralyzed from the chest down.

그래요, 제 형제 존은 가슴 아래쪽이 마비됐어요.

마이크 복스는 거의 유일하게 수제 경량 스포츠 휠체어를 제작합니다.

And from then on we said let's make things better.

그때부터 우린 뭔가를 더 나은 것으로 만들자고 했어요.

I'm an individual that don't read or write that well,

and I can weld and make stuff.

저는 용접도 하고 물건도 잘 만들어요.

This here is our inspection plate.

We put our chairs up here

여기다 의자를 올려 놓고

to make sure all four wheels are on the ground at one time.

네 바퀴가 전부 지면에 닿는지를 확인하죠.

I get up at six in the morning.

저는 아침 여섯 시에 일어나요.

I start on the phone.

전화로 시작하죠.

I don't start work till eight, because I got neighbors.

저는 8시까진 일을 하지 않아요. 이웃들 때문에요.

And then I usually stop at nine with the noise, at night,

그리고 보통 9시에 시끄러운 일을 끝내죠. 9시에요.

and then that's it.

그리고 그게 다에요.

This has consumed my life because I let it.

제 인생 전부가 쓰였어요, 제가 그렇게 했으니까요.

Consume: 소비하다, 소진시키다, 시간이 걸리다

Because I enjoy it.

제가 좋아하니까요.

Keeping my hands busy, but helping others.

손을 바쁘게 움직여서 다른 이들을 돕는 것.

Whether it be building a truck with hand controls,

그게 수동으로 조작할 수 있는 트럭을 만들어서

Whether it be: 그게 뭐가 됐든 ( whether it be A or B라고 해서 “그게 A가 됐든 B가 됐든, 뭐든 간에”라고 쓰임)

and showing them that they can do it.

그들에게 할 수 있단 걸 보여주는 것이든 뭐든지요.

The impossible just takes a little bit longer.

불가능이란 건 단지 이루는 데 좀 더 오래 걸릴 뿐이에요.

We have our material that we use for stocking chairs.

휠체어를 넣어두는 데 쓰는 우리만의 도구가 있어요.

More inventory than you can think about.

당신이 생각하는 것보다 많은 물품이 있어요.

Cody is a kid in Florida.

코디는 플로리다에 사는 아이에요.

I got to meet him in the WCMX

저는 코디를 WCMX에서 만났어요.

World’s Contest in Texas,

텍사스에서 열린 세계 대회였는데

Austin, Texas, put on by RISE.

텍사스의 오스틴이요. RISE가 개최했죠

Put on something: ~을 개최하다

And, he was in a chair that a young adult was supposed to be in.

코디는 젊은 어른이 앉아야 할 만한 휠체어에 앉아있었어요.

And, when I got home, I knew what I was gonna do,

그리고 집에 왔을 때 저는 제가 할 일을 알았죠

I was gonna send this little kid a chair.

저는 그 애에게 휠체어를 보내주려고 했어요.

And I sent it to him,

그리고 보냈죠.

and the dad and the kid, today, they always had a great relationship

그리고 그 애 아빠랑 그 애는사이가 아주 좋았는데,

and mom, that good family,

그리고 그 엄마도요. 그 좋은 가족이,

but now dad's building him ramps.

근데 지금은 아빠가 경사로를 만들어주고 있대요.

Six foot ramps to go do skate park stuff.

6피트 짜리 경사로를요. 스케이트보딩 같은 걸 하려고요.

And this kid's probably six, seven years old.

그 애는 아마 6살, 7살 쯤 될 거예요.

I don't know why I do it.

제가 왜 이걸 하는지 모르겠어요.

This isn't a good living,

넉넉한 생활은 아니에요.

A good living: 넉넉한 생활, 호화스러운 생활

I mean if anyone wants to get in the wheelchair business,

휠체어 사업에 뛰어들려는 사람이 있을까 싶은데

it's a tough living.

빠듯한 생활이에요.

It's a tough living.

빠듯하게 살아요.

But…

하지만

the people I meet from around the world,

제가 만난 세계 곳곳에서 온 사람들,

I've been to, I just got back from Argentina.

저는 막 아르헨티나에서 돌아왔는데

I seen some of the best kids in the whole wide world.

저는 이 세상 최고의 아이들을 만났어요.

And seeing them and helping them,

그들을 만나고, 그들을 도와주고

and knowing that…

그리고 안다는 것...

there is love out there and to give love.

저기 사랑이 있고, 사랑을 준다는 것.

Yes changing lives, yes it happens every day.

인생을 바꾸는 것, 그래요 그건 매일 일어나요.

My question to you is

제가 묻고 싶은 건 이거에요.

“how do you feel about changing my life today?”

“오늘 제 인생을 바꿔보는 게 어때요?”
