Bill worked incredibly hard and he took risks

and he made sacrifices for success.

성공하기 위해 희생도 감수했습니다.

But there's another essential ingredient of success, and that is luck.

하지만 그의 성공에는 또다른 필수요소가 있었죠. 바로 ‘운’입니다.

Absolute and total luck.

절대적이고 완전한 운이요.

When were you born?

언제 태어났는가,

Who are your parents?

부모님이 누구신가,

Where did you grow up?

어디서 자랐는가?

None of us earn these things.

이런 것들은 노력으로 되는 게 아니에요.

Earn: (노력을 통해) 얻어 내다

These things were given to us.

그냥 주어진 거예요.

So when we strip away all of our luck and our privilege

and we consider where we would be without them,

it becomes someone, much easier to see someone who is poor and say, “that could be me.”

And that's empathy.

Empathy tears down barriers and
