지난 밤 에미시상식이 있었는데요

first we thought maybe we talk about surprises and the snubs.

예상치 못 했던 것이라던지 누가 잘난 체 했다던지에 대해 이야기할까 생각했지만

Snub: 잘난 척하는 사람

That seems like basically what most people are talking about.

다른 사람들도 다 그 얘기를 하고 있잖아요

Then we remembered Breaking Bad and the Colbert Report won,

그리고 Breaking Bad와 Colbert Report가 상을 받았고,

and beyond that I don’t really care.

그 외에는 별로 상관이 없긴 해요.

And why else do people actually watch the Emmy’s?

그럼 왜 사람들이 에미시상식을 보냐구요?

Alright, I guess to see what the stars are wearing,

음.. 스타들이 뭘 입고 있는지 볼 수 있겠죠

maybe we could do a best dressed, worst dressed list..

우리가 베스트 드레서/ 워스트 드레서 리스트를 할 수도 있는데

but to be completely honest,

our staff, myself included, is ill-equipped to make such judgments.

We as a group could give the most comfortable sneakers list out of the park

or talk about how many times in a row one can wear the same sweatshirt without it falling apart.

똑같은 잠바가 떨어지기전에 몇 번이나 입어도 되는건지 이야기할 수 있겠죠

Fall apart: 떨어지다/허물어지다

But eveningwear? Not so much.

하지만 드레스는? 아닌 것 같아요.

So where does that leave?

그럼 뭐가 무엇에 대해 이야기할 수 있냐구요?

Well, the acceptance speeches.

수상소감이 있죠.

Typically precious affairs filled with the names

보통은 이름이 줄줄이 나오는 소중한 순간이지만

of the people you don’t know, or their agent,

모르는 사람 이름도 있고, 에이전시 이름도 있고,

people accompanied by fame, surprise or humility,

유명세랑, 놀라움과 겸손함 뭐 이런걸 표현할 수 있겠고,

and/or follow your dream cliches...

‘꿈을 포기하지 마라' 이런 진부한 이야기를 하죠

Until the music gets loud enough to put us all out of our misery.

음악 소리가 커져서 이 지겨운 걸 끝내기까지 말이죠.

Then last night, woman named Merritt Wever stepped on stage

하지만 어젯밤에 Merritt Wever 이라는 여성분이 무대에서

after winning the supporting actress in comedy Emmy for her role as Jackie.

Jackie라는 역할로 코메디부분에서 여자조연을 수상했습니다.

And she forever changed our minds about

그녀가 우리가 알고 있는

what an award acceptance speech can be and should be.

수상소감이 어떤 말을 할 수 있는지, 어떻게 해야하는지에 대해 완전히 바꾸어 두었어요.

I like someone who is not in touch with their emotions,

doesn’t know how they feel until about a week later.

일주일 후까지 어떤 느낌인지 모르는 사람들 말이죠

Her real speech was better, frankly.

하지만 솔직히 무대 위 소감이 더 좋았어요

I also think we should all use the Merritt Wever method from now on,

when someone gives you an award--any kind

누가 상을 준다던지ㅡ 그게 어떤 상이든

--or even give you a casual compliment,
